Forecast Discussion: Enjoy Today

After some early morning fog over the suburbs, sunshine will dominate the latter half of today with temperatures getting up between 45-50 for most of the Philadelphia area. Clouds should increase towards sunset with the onset of a cold front moving through tonight.

For those of you in the Poconos, an inch or two of snow is possible after the passage of the cold front, which should be around midnight. Look for scattered snow showers N & W of I-81 and north of I-80 overnight and Wednesday with some lake effect and perhaps a flurry or an isolated snow shower elsewhere but only with the frontal passage.

Temperatures on Wednesday may very well peak at midnight with temps near 35-40 and after dropping to near 25-30 by morning be slow to rise throughout the day...maybe getting back into the mid and upper 30's with a gusty west and northwest wind up to 30 mph.

Thursday will feature similiar weather with gusty winds as well as the low pressure system associated with this front bombs up to a sub 980 low off of Nova Scotia. The 0z GFS from last night suggests that this low becomes a 50/50 blocking low (low off of Newfoundland) like the one that the UKMET had on Sunday night's run. Watch how the low camps out near Newfoundland for a couple of days -- this low is one indicator of the NAO going negative.

If the low persists, and the GFS keeps a low off of Newfoundland of Labrador for a few days, there is a chance for snow with that next system on Sunday night/Monday. There may be a high pressure in between -- if the high is in the right spot (just north of Maine) -- cold air can funnel down the East Coast and cause snow for some areas (likely N & W of the city).

I am not saying that it will snow on Monday -- but if everything plays out right -- we could see some snow in places without a changeover.
