October 18th, 2007 Forecast

Now: Temperatures in the mid and upper 70's are covering the region, leading to the soon to be realization in a deranged mind that it's not really October and that the calendar has been lying to you for the last 16 days. Alas, reality will be coming. The question is when -- there is significant differences between the computer models on what's going to take place in about a week but we could see much cooler weather this time next week in these parts.

Tonight: It will be a warm evening with temperatures not breaking below 60 in Philadelphia and staying in the upper 50's in much of the region. It's possible fog and/or low clouds develop late in the evening and carry over into the morning. Chances of that are higher in New Jersey than they are in Pennsylvania, where a southerly wind flow aloft will arrive sooner in the evening.
Tomorrow: A large storm system will be marching east and developing severe weather for the Chicago and St. Louis areas. We will get one last generally dry and nice day in the region. I won't rule out a shower up over the mountains far north and west of Philadelphia as there will be some increased instability in our region thanks to more humidity. Temperatures will end up just shy of 80 in Philadelphia and in the mid to upper 70's regionwide. Philly's record is 85 tomorrow -- we won't get there.

Weathering Music: After talking about The Weather Channel's "Weather on the 8's Music" yesterday I wondered and wandered through some weather-related music that would be appropriate for the weather. Marsha's comment about The Smiths song "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" made me think that had to be the theme of every snow-starved adolescent who wanted a snowstorm and a snow day the night before a big test. Some other weather-appropriate songs....

"Can't Always Get What You Want" -- Ma Nature's response to said snow starved teenager.
"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" -- forgetting your umbrella and having to get out of the car in a rainstorm.
"Who Will Stop the Rain" -- I guess that's when you have had too much rain, which we haven't.

...as an afterthought it's always nice to find a connection to The Smiths and Morrissey somehow as Morrissey is in my MP3 rotation on a regular basis.

The Weather Channel CD is now #60 in sales at Amazon.com by the way.

Tropical Talk: Tropical Storm Kiko is in the Pacific and may scrape the West Coast of Mexico in a couple of a days. The Pacific, for the second time in three years, is behind the Atlantic in the number of named storms. The Pacific only has had 11 named storms this year while the Atlantic has had 13.
