December 17th, 2007 Forecast

A significant wind event is on tap for tonight and tomorrow in the Delaware Valley. Low pressure will be cranking up and moving northeast through New England. The strength of the deepening low pressure and its interaction with high pressure moving east through the Midwest will lead to a wind tunnel of 30, 40, and 50 mph winds later tonight and tomorrow. Combined with temperatures that will be in the 20's tonight and 30's tomorrow and wind chills will be in the teens and very low 20's for much of the next 24-36 hours. The other issue is the increasing possibility of power outages and downed trees over Central Pennsylvania from accumulated ice that is still clinging to trees and power lines will be blown around with strong winds.
As winds crank up from the northwest we will see remnant lake effect flurry bands crossing through the region, especially north of Philadelphia. Accumulations aren't likely but a stray snow shower or dying snow squall crossing through the Poconos or Southeastern Pennsylvania is not out of the question tomorrow.

The next chance of precipitation looks to be on Thursday night and Friday as low pressure tracks up the Eastern Seaboard. This low will likely scoot out to sea to the south of Philadelphia but a chance of rain is in the forecast for then. If things change, we'll let you know.
