Cold Start To The Week
15 degrees is the low temperature in Philadelphia for Martin Luther King Day 2008. This would be the coldest morning of the year so far. Wind chills are a few degrees either side of zero this morning to add some bite to the bark of winter. Temperatures around much of the region bottomed out at seasonal lows so far, with the exception of the 14 at Atlantic City and the 2 at Mount Pocono. Temperatures generally were in the single digits to the lower teens above west of I-95 and in the teens along and east of I-95. We should see about 15 degrees added to the morning lows before the day is out, with high temperatures generally in the mid and upper 20's today.
While chilly, this is hardly the stuff of legend as far as Philadelphia is concerned for past January 21st's. Three years ago today (2005) the morning low was 10 above (high of 22) and back in 1994 the morning low was 5 with a high of 24. Oh, back in 1985 the low was -6 and the high for the day was 8 above zero.
