March 3rd, 2008 Forecast

A relatively nice March day will give way to a very nice March day tomorrow as we see south winds crank up and temperatures rise. We could see a run at the mid 60's on Tuesday with more warm air riding up the coastal plain in advance of a storm system that will impact us Tuesday night with rain.

Tonight: Generally partly cloudy skies are expected with some high clouds passing overhead thanks to warmer air moving in aloft. Low temperatures will be in the mid 20's in the Lehigh Valley but in the upper 20's to low 30's around the Philadelphia area. Winds will be light and variable.
Monday: South winds will bring warmer air into the Delaware Valley. We will see temperatures flirt with 60 in the Delaware Valley as mainly sunny skies bring a taste of spring north. Of course south winds in New Jersey means that temperatures will be cooler along the coast, with 40's to low 50's expected but warmer conditions will be expected inland.
Tuesday may ultimately be our warmest day in the next several as we stay on the warm side of the low pressure system. Precipitation should avoid the Philadelphia region until the late afternoon hours. Temperatures on the NAM computer model have 67 degrees for Philadelphia for Tuesday afternoon, with 70's over Maryland and DC. While it may not be *that* warm, I could see high temperatures in the mid 60's in Philadelphia, with a run at 60 again north and west as cloud cover will be thicker thanks to a surface frontal boundary that will be to our north. Rain will move through Tuesday night and we'll see Wednesday afternoon feature a return to sunshine with breezy conditions and a nice day Thursday before our next chance of showers on Friday.

Sweeps! The first sweeps period is in for John Bolaris at Fox 29 since replacing Rob Guarino in January. Fox 29's 10 PM newscasts pulled in a 6 rating/10 share in the Nielsen ratings, which is a point lower than the February 2007 ratings of 7 with an 11 share. The February and May sweeps have historically been Fox 29's strongest performing time frames as American Idol is a lead in several nights per week. Since the writer's strike put some of the better-rated shows on Fox, such as "24", on the shelf, the impact of the Bolaris-for-Guarino swap remains unclear. The May sweeps may provide a better clue to a potential trend in the ratings. It may be likely that the viewers that Fox 29 lost in Guarino's departure may have been replaced by a different demographic of viewers with Bolaris' hiring (in about the same numbers).

Maria LaRosa Expecting: CBS 3 morning meteorologist Maria LaRosa is calling for her second child to be delivered in September. LaRosa is already the proud mother of a two year old son, Michael.
