April 11th and 12th, 2008 Forecast

Due to the way the weather is setting up shop over the next couple of days I felt it would be best to package Friday's and Saturday's weather forecasts together. I will update Saturday's weather as needed tomorrow night but issue a forecast for Sunday coming up on Saturday.

Now: Sunshine filtered with some advancing high clouds and an awesome Spring day is going down in Philadelphia today. Temperatures are in the 70's for everyone but Cape May, which is at 60, and Delaware where fog held on a bit longer this morning and winds are coming off of Delaware Bay (temps there in the 60's).

Tonight: Clouds will continue to increase in advance of the complex storm system that will impact our weather for the next few days. We could see a couple of showers late over Central Pennsylvania. Winds will veer around to the southeast late tonight and some low clouds may move back in late across some areas. Low temperatures tonight will end up between 48 and 53, coolest in the Mountains and at the Shore and warmest in the city.
Friday: A warm front will lift north with the storm system and we should see winds veer around during the day from southeast to south and pick up, gusting possibly to 25 mph in the afternoon. There won't be as much sun as there was today but it will still be mild for this time of the year as the average high temperature in Philadelphia is around 60 degrees. We should see temperatures get to near 70 in Philadelphia and in the mid to upper 60's for everyone else but the Shore, which should end up around 60. Scattered showers (and possibly a storm) will be confined to areas north and west of Philadelphia although Philadelphia may get a storm late in the afternoon hours.

If more sunshine breaks out we could see temperatures a good bit warmer...if this does happen I expect the warmer temperatures would be over Delaware and South Central Pennsylvania and both areas could get into the 70's if this occurs.
Friday night: Scattered showers and storms should advance from west to east. This activity will not be as intense as the storms that are slamming the Midwest today from this storm but we could get a couple of stronger rumbles of thunder later on Friday night over Pennsylvania as there will be additional moisture and instability west of I-95. Temperatures will be mild overnight Friday night and should stay in the mid to upper 50's, with 60 or even low 60's in Philadelphia by Saturday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for Friday and Friday night west of I-81, with the greatest potential for severe weather from Toledo to Pittsburgh to near Dayton, OH.
Temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid to upper 60's although the NAM is trying hard to bring temperatures into the 70's as it is bringing less rain and more sunshine to our weather on Saturday. For now, I don't think it'll be that warm and I think we'll get close to 70 as showers and storms end around midday and we see some breaks in the clouds during the afternoon. Cooler air will filter east as an upper level low in association with this storm complex moves towards us slowly.
Cooler weather will move in and we'll see unsettled conditions through the early part of next week, with Monday being the most "rotten" day of the upcoming seven as scattered showers develop and we're under the coolest influences of the low pressure system. Temperatures look to moderate as we move into the middle of the week but Wednesday and Thursday are low confidence forecasts as one computer model is trying to develop another (yes, another) cut-off low off of the Carolinas that could bring some clouds on Thursday.

Big Storm On Superior: A blizzard is about to rage through parts of Minnesota, bringing one to two feet of snow to Duluth and over a foot of snow to Minneapolis. Duluth's WDIO-TV has a pretty cool harbor cam showing (during daylight hours) the waves, wind, and snow (once it starts). Even though it's weather that's not in Philadelphia it's snow and I know snow sells with some of you. Enjoy!
