Lull In The Action

As round #1 of rain has left Philadelphia and has brought us about 1/2" of rain in the region, the eyes turn to the second round which is over the Ohio Valley as of 6:30 AM. We will see a break in the action for the next few hours before this second round of rain begins to move in just after midday.

Round #2 of the rainfall will move through during the afternoon hours, extending into the evening. This round of rain is in association with a cold front boundary that is slowly moving east. While we wait for that to move through, a warm front just to our south should move past Philadelphia at some point today, helping warm us to around 60 in the city.

The second round of rainfall should bring us between one-half and one inch of rain before ending later tomorrow morning. There is still some uncertainty on how far off the coast this front can get, with the Euro computer model still hinting at another round of rain for Saturday night and early Sunday. The NAM and GFS counter this argument and are saying Sunday (and even late Saturday afternoon) should be dry.

In either case, the slow and steady nature of the rain that is forthcoming should be enough for most streams and rivers to stay within their banks. Some flooding is possible in places but it should be the general exception and not widespread across the region.
