May 10th and 11th, 2008 Forecast

Now: Raw and rainy conditions continue through the region with intermittent light to moderate rainfall, temperatures in the low to mid 50's, and chilly northeast winds. Today's weather is somewhat apropros, sadly, given the funeral for the slain Philadelphia police officer held in Center City earlier today. Rain will continue off and on for the next few hours before ending as the last band of rain rotates through.

Tonight: Skies will start cloudy but become mostly cloudy later tonight as the current storm pulls away. Rain will end from southwest to northeast during the early evening hours. Breezy conditions will continue through the evening and a chilly night will ensue, with low temperatures in the mid and upper 40's tonight.
Saturday: A disturbance in the Great Lakes will move east towards us but will begin to fall apart as it gets sheared apart due to our current storm being in proximity over New England and the Canadian Maritimes. Showers will move from the west through Pennsylvania and some places could see a scattered shower or storm in the afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny, with more sunshine possible in the morning than in the afternoon, with temperatures generally in the low 60's except along the coast (upper 50's) and the mid 60's in Philadelphia.

Saturday night will feature clearing skies and low's in the 40's to near 50 across the region.
Sunday: A mostly sunny day and, wow, a dry day around here as we'll be in advance of the second storm in a parade of storms that are going to impact our region through Friday. Temperatures should approach 70 in the Delaware Valley with a good bit of sun early before clouds increasing during the afternoon. Rain will move in after dinner Sunday night, meaning the day will be pretty decent.

Phillyweather.net will update you with more information on this storm tomorrow.
Volcano Lightning: A very cool picture from the Daily Mail in London and the UPI on the left showing the amazing lightning storm during a volcanic eruption in Chile. The ash plume from this volcano has traveled across the southern portions of Chile and Argentina and into the Atlantic Ocean.

One town of 4500 was nearly evacuated in full as ash fell on the town, coating homes and objects in a muddy layer of soot. Nearly 7000 in this rural part of Chile have been driven from their homes.

Myanmar Bracing For More Rains: Upwards of 100 mm (2.5") of rain is expected in Myanmar over the next several days as tropical moisture gathers to its southwest and may move towards the country. One man in Myanmar lost 28 relatives from the storm and is the only survivor in his family.

Coming This Weekend: An update on the Sunday night-Monday rains and also my thoughts on the upcoming Summer weather.
