May 29th, 2008 Forecast
Now: It's a cool but mostly sunny afternoon as stiff north breezes at 10 to 20 mph are keeping temperatures in the 60's in much of the region. Compared to yesterday's 84 degree warmth today's 60's certainly feels like a fresh slap of chilled reality, one that will hang with us tonight before we begin to warm up tomorrow.Tonight: It will be a cool night across the Delaware Valley as winds slacken off to less than five miles per hour and clear skies provide optimum radiational cooling for the Delaware Valley. Low temperatures tonight will range from the upper 30's in the Pine Barrens and Lehigh Valley to the upper 40's along I-95. The Philadelphia suburbs should be in the low to mid 40's. Some patchy frost is possible in the coolest spots in the Pine Barrens, Lehigh Valley, and in the Poconos.
Thursday: It will be cool to start but the sunshine will warm things up quickly and will help bounce temperatures quickly into the mid 70's nearly everywhere except right at the coast. Winds will be from the west at 5 to 10, at times 15 mph but it will be a beautiful day in Philadelphia.
Saturday is showing the potential for strong to potentially severe thunderstorms in the afternoon as a cold front will be marching east. This front will be bringing dynamics to the table that are more conducive for strong and severe thunderstorm development than Tuesday evening's event. I will talk about this in more detail tomorrow but the potential is certainly there for some strong storms Saturday afternoon.USA On Pace To Break Tornado Record: 2008's tornado season has been the deadliest since 1998 and is also now on pace to potentially break the record number of twisters (1817, set in 2004) in a year.
Carbon Belch Day: Conservative grassroots group Grassfire.org is asking people to waste as much energy as possible on June 12 by "hosting a barbecue, going for a drive, watching television, leaving a few lights on, or even smoking a few cigars."
