Memorial Day Weekend Weather

The "unofficial" start to Summer 2008 is upon us and it will be a very, very nice weekend across the Delaware Valley, with predominately sunny skies, low humidities, and increasing temperatures.

Temperatures will start out chilly today as gusty northwest winds continue to pump down cool air; however, the addition of sunshine to our weather (a commodity we have not seen much of lately) will help brighten our spirits and boost temperatures to around 70 by day's end. Temperatures tonight will drop into 40's in the suburbs to around 50 in Center City and along the coast.

The forecast for the three day weekend is below for Philadelphia, the Poconos, the Delaware Beaches, and the Jersey Shore points, with daily high and low temperatures for each day.

Temperatures will warm from the low 70's on Saturday (60's Poconos) to the 70's on Sunday and to the 80's for inland areas on Monday, with 70's at the Poconos and at the coast. Low temperatures will be in the 50's for everyone but the Poconos, who will bottom out in the 40's on Saturday and Sunday night.

Skies will be mostly sunny each of the next three days. It will be a very, very nice Memorial Day weekend around here. Enjoy it!

Bolaris vs Guarino Watch, Part 2: The second round of ratings are in for John Bolaris at Fox 29 and the results are a flat line compared to Rob Guarino. May 2007 ratings (at least the first half of them) showed Fox 29's Ten PM newscast generating a rating of 6.0. May 2008's ratings are in and Fox 29 did exactly the same, generating a 6.0 rating on the Neilsen scale. While not a decrease unlike in the February sweeps, the ratings have not climbed markedly at Fox with John Bolaris in charge of the weather.

Fatten Up The Global Warming Train: With snow in Arizona, cold weather on both coasts, and a generally rotten May for much of the country weather wise, the global warming forces have found a new target: The heavy-set. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend and the official kick-off to the outdoor cooking, and the Summer eating season, British scientists say fat people use more energy to transport them around and also spend more energy to heat up the excess amounts of food they eat compared to those who are not as overweight.

"We are all becoming heavier and it is a global responsibility. Obesity is a key part of the big picture," researcher Phil Edwards said in a UPI interview.

Coming This Weekend: A look at past Memorial Days, some thoughts about hurricane season, and me enjoying the nice weather!
