A Rainy Night For Some, Windy For All

Through 8:30 this morning the coastal storm has spared the immediate Delaware Valley from the heaviest rainfall, with bands of rain pivoting through just to our south and also just to our north. While the rainfall on this storm may ultimately come in lower than forecast in Philadelphia, the wind and cold that accompanied the storm verified as predicted. Winds have gusted to 65 mph in the lower end of Delaware Bay last night, with gusts as high as 62 mph in Avalon last night.

Rainfall, however, was heavier just to our south. While doppler radar estimates (see above) have over 5" of rain in Kent and Sussex Counties of Delaware the actual rainfall amounts at observation sites in these places are closer to one inch. Dover has picked up .80", with Salisbury, MD, getting 1.25" as of 8 AM. The actual heaviest rainfall has fallen in the Washington and Baltimore regions, with over three inches of rain falling at BWI Airport just south of Baltimore.

Rain will continue occasionally throughout the day, with drizzle at other times, and some times of just clouds and wind.

I will have a final rainfall total listing for these places later tonight and more updates during the day as needed.
