Tuesday's Heat Primer

Update, 1 PM: 95 in Philadelphia is running a degree above yesterday's 94 degree reading at 1 PM at the Airport. Allentown is at 93 and within a degree of their record high. Atlantic City Airport is at 96 and Northeast Philadelphia is at 97 for the hot spot in the immediate area. Heat index values range between 95 and 110, with the 110 being the heat index in Dover as their 1 PM temperature is 93 and dewpoint is 79!
One last day of nasty heat and humidity is on the way. Temperatures that are forecast to be in the mid and upper 90's again will combine with dewpoints in the upper 60's to bring you an apparent heat index (feels like temperature) of about 100. If dewpoints end up higher than what is listed above the heat index could reach 105. Thankfully today looks to be the last of the first heat wave of 2008 as temperatures should drop under 90 tomorrow across the Delaware Valley.
Today's record highs are reachable and a couple again should be set, most likely in Allentown and Trenton where their records are the lowest among the non-mountainous climate sites in the region.
I have imposed graphics from the National Weather Service in State College that show the temperature and the dewpoint. You can click on the graphic below and it will pop up in a new window for you to look at. You can also hit f-5 to refresh these graphics.
