Fay's Rains

After days of soaking the Southeast the leftovers of Tropical Storm Fay will begin to move towards the Mid Atlantic over the next 48 hours. Already to the south of Philadelphia high cirrus clouds can be seen moving eastward as the low pressure center sits back over Alabama, moving slowly northeastward. Moisture is being sheared from the low and is slowly moving towards our neck of the woods, with a Thursday afternoon arrival in Philadelphia looking more and more like a good bet.

While computer guidance is suggesting that Fay's heaviest rainfall will miss the city to the west and south, parts of the Mid Atlantic could be in line for an inch or two of much needed rainfall on Thursday PM and Friday AM from Fay's moisture. Around our region the rainfall totals look to be a bit less, more along the lines of no more than 1/2". While this may change and is dependent on the track of Fay's moisture, it is possible Philadelphia may be shafted from the rains of Fay as well.

The other point that Fay will bring us is cooler temperatures on Thursday, with highs struggling to get into the middle 70's as clouds will take hold during the day (lower than my forecast from last night which suggested near 80 degrees). If rain arrives early enough it could be struggle to get much past 70 on Thursday. I guess so much for summer, huh? The bright side of this is that Fay's rains should depart no later than midday Friday, leaving Friday evening to be decent before a cold front moves through Saturday with a chance for a thunderstorm or two.
