Houston, Ike Was A Problem

Ike is still a hurricane as of noon, sporting 80 mph winds at the last advisory. Despite slowly winding down across the eastern parts of Texas, Ike's wrath was felt in numerous places and in numerous ways.

Damage to Reliant Stadium in Houston may lead the Texans-Ravens football game that was initially scheduled for tomorrow but was moved back to Monday night due to the hurricane to be moved again. More than 2.6 million people are without power in Southeast Texas and efforts to restore power to homes will take weeks to complete. Houston residents have been asked to boil water and stay inside in order to allow emergency workers the greatest possible access to roads in Houston.

In Galveston, the historical Balinese Room was effectively destroyed. The storm has killed one suburban resident so far but the death toll will likely rise in the coming days once the impact of damage to Galveston and other coastal communities is fully realized.

Given the impact of this hurricane in Houston, with damage to buildings and glass knocked out of the hi-rise buildings, the coming days will probably tell a much darker tale of the reality of Ike's fury across Southeast Texas
