November 21st, 2008 Forecast

Now: A cold afternoon in the Delaware Valley but not as cold as yesterday. Temperatures have nudged to around or just above 40 in the area after some morning flurries and virga moved through the region. We'll see more flurries and snow showers move through tonight as reinforcements of cold move south.

Tonight: A weak area of low pressure pushing south along the mid level pattern, will cross the region with snow showers developing late in the evening and overnight. Snow showers will develop in a band or in a scattered line that will cross from northwest to southeast. Temperatures by morning will be in the mid 20's in the coldest spots to around 30 in Center City.

Friday: Snow showers will continue and will be most numerous in the morning. Skies will be mostly cloudy throughout the day with a stiff breeze developing in the afternoon as the weak disturbance organizes itself into an area of low pressure off of the coast. Winds will gust to over 25 mph in the afternoon as temperatures only reach 40 in Philadelphia and stay in the 30's north and west. Snow showers could coat the ground or even get to around an inch of accumulation in those heaviest of bands. Both the GFS and NAM show the potential for a stripe of up to an inch of snow across Southeast PA and into South Jersey and Delaware. Another post will be forthcoming on the snow later this afternoon.

Weekend Sneak Peek: Saturday will be cold and windy with temperatures barely passing 35 in the city and wind chills staying in the lower/middle 20's for much of the day. After a cold Saturday night where lows could be in the teens in some of the colder suburbs, Sunday will "moderate" some to feature temperatures just above 40 as winds diminish. Another chance of rain (mixed with snow in the Poconos?) will cross the region on Monday with a cold front.

Winter Forecasts Abound: NBC 10 releases their official winter forecast tonight (Thursday) at 11. 6 ABC released theirs this morning. I'll recap it later this afternoon.
