June 14th (PM) and 15th, 2009 Forecast

Now: Sunday started off on a mostly cloudy note but clearer skies were just off to the west. We will see an increase in sunshine through the morning hours as the disturbance responsible for yesterday's storms works off the coast. Temperatures are starting off the day in the low and mid 60's across the region.

Through Sunday: Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds through the balance of today, with a couple of pop up showers possible thanks to residual instability in the atmosphere. Today's shower activity will not be as widespread nor as torrential but thanks to a lack of upper level steering there could be some slow moving showers. Highs today should approach or hit 80 inland, remaining in the mid/upper 70's at the Shore.

Tonight: Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy and any evening showers will fall apart with sunset. However, more showers are possible late northwest of Philadelphia as a disturbance begins to work towards us for Monday. Low temperatures will range from 58 in the burbs to 62 in the city.

Monday: Another day, another chance for storms. More scattered thunderstorms will be expected through the course of the day as another disturbance tracks through the region along the jet stream. Again, not everyone gets hit with storms but there's a reasonable chance that any one location gets a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon (best chances away from the coast). High temperatures will be a couple of degrees cooler than the weekend, generally in the mid 70's inland, low 70's at the Shore.
Week Ahead: I've bumped temperatures down a couple of notches in response to trends in the models showing high pressure building to the northeast of us for Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing an onshore flow from the Atlantic for both days. We should see a mix of sun & clouds both days. Although the weather may not be perfectly ideal, we should remain dry for the most part although there could be a couple of pop up showers across Central Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon. Another more significant chance for thunderstorms is possible Thursday into Friday as a storm system works its way through the Ohio Valley and into our region. This should pull some warm air into the region for Friday afternoon and Saturday before a cold front crosses and we drop back down some in temperatures on Sunday. How warm we get Friday into Saturday is still subject to debate, with the EURO computer model suggesting a run into the upper 80's to 90 on Saturday while the GFS is a bit more subdued.
