A Taste of Winter
How does the thought of some higher elevation snow flakes sound for you snow starved? If you are in Allentown or points north on Thursday night, you may see more snowflakes. The upcoming few days will feature a cool airmass, with temperatures running several degrees below average between Wednesday and Saturday. A reinforcing shot of cold air will come in with the wake of a cold front passage on Thursday afternoon, which will drop temperatures to the 40's for much of us on Friday.

The cold front will aid in the development of a storm in the Atlantic on Thursday night, which looks to generally not impact us but could impact coastal New England and Atlantic Canada. As the low strengthens, it will funnel additional cold air down from Canada and help set up a lake effect event downwind from the Great Lakes for Thursday night and early Friday. Additionally, some energy from a deepening mid level trough will help fire up some showers across parts of the region as energy gets drawn into the developing low. As temperatures drop on Thursday night after the front passes through and cold air funnels in, some of the showers could mix with or change to snow across the higher elevations of Pennsylvania and North Jersey.
I doubt it snows in New York City for Game 7 (should we get there) -- although a period of light rain or showers is not out of the question. Temperatures will be chilly though, generally in the low 40's at the start. I'll provide a gamecast for Game 7 should the Phillies win tomorrow night.
It does not look like a major event nor should accumulations be expected -- this does look like a rather benign setup. However, for those longing for winter across the Delaware Valley, it is yet another sign of the change of seasons and another sign that Old Man Winter is starting to fire up his engines for a few months' reign.
