New Year Starts On Same Note As Last Year Ended

We're starting off 2012 on the same mild note that we finished 2011...and hopefully the fans of mild weather will enjoy it today because temperatures are going to drop off quite a bit on Monday and Tuesday in the wake of a frontal boundary that crosses the region tonight.   We're starting off in the 30's in many spots (20's in the coldest of the suburbs), poised to bounce into the 50's this afternoon with sunshine for much of the morning before clouds increase later on this afternoon.   We're calling for a high of 58 in Philadelphia today, with mid 50's north and upper 50's to near 60 again south of the city.   If you're going to the Mummers' Parade or the Eagles' game today the weather will definitely cooperate but the sun will gradually fade through the afternoon hours.

Showers will begin to approach the area late in the afternoon hours, generally after 4 PM in Central PA, with the city and immediate burbs getting in on the showers anytime after 6 PM.   The front should cross the region later this evening, shifting the southerly breezes that develop this afternoon to the west later tonight, increasing them to 12-18 mph overnight.   Temperatures will begin their slow descent into winter later tonight and it will feel more like January tomorrow as temperatures remain steady in the upper 30's through much of the day, buoyed by gusty, chilled breezes from the west and northwest.
