Forecast for Monday, February 27, 2012
Monday will be unseasonably mild. Tuesday will also still be above the average. Near 60 in Philadelphia on Monday, at least 50 on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
Big questions lurk for Tuesday Night into Thursday Morning. A complex storm system may tap into colder air (most likely north of Philadelphia) to cause wet snow, sleet, and freezing rain to fall. Philadelphia itself may see a brief period of wet snow and sleet...but for now...it looks like a mainly rain event. Models are still not in good agreement and this forecast may eventually turn colder. The higher terrain, including the Poconos, will be at risk for a significant accumulation of ice if profiles warm enough where snowflakes are ended. Very difficult to say right now what exactly will happen. Our temperatures in the long term forecast are middle grounds again and may be subject to huge changes as later model data comes in. There is up to about 1.00" of liquid to work with here and thus this leaves potential for our northern counties in particular (Poconos, upper Lehigh Valley) for quite a bit of wintry weather.
