March 2nd, 2012 Forecast

Welcome to meteorological spring ! The official season of spring begins at 1:14 AM on March 20th with the vernal equinox. In preparation for the equinox, our clocks will "spring forward" an hour on the morning of March 11th and 2 AM will become 3 AM. In the meantime, it may feel like spring around here for the next couple of days, especially Saturday as a long wave trough becomes a closed low and brings us warm temperatures and the chance for thunderstorms.

Tonight: Few clouds and cooler. Lows in the upper 30s. Northwest winds will shift from the north at 5 to 15 mph. The sunset this evening is at 5:53 PM.

Friday: Sun giving way to clouds. Not as mild with a high in the lower 50s. East-northeast winds will shift from the southeast in the afternoon at 5 to 15 mph. Rain arrives at night as the trough pushes eastward and a closed upper level low develops north of the Great Lakes. This will also cause temperatures to rise into the mid to upper 50s by daybreak Saturday. The chance of rain is 80 percent.

Saturday: Warmer and breezy with an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the lower 60s.

Sunday: Mix of sun and clouds, breezy, cooler. High in the upper 40s.
