Coolest Of Week Today

Today's cool start will give way to a chilled day with a mix of clouds and sunshine, with probably more clouds today than we had yesterday through the region as a trough in the atmosphere moves through.  Our cool start this morning was made possible by clear skies overnight, relatively light winds, and the cold air mass in place overhead.  Those three had allowed temperatures to drop into the 30's for areas to our north and west and that cooler start will help us today not reach 60 across the region.  Best case scenario looks like mid 50's for almost everyone, perhaps some upper 50's for the Shore and for Southern Delaware.

As a trough moves through today, clouds increase this morning from west to east, with a mostly cloudy midday and afternoon likely throughout the area.  Shower chances will gradually increase, with the best chance of a shower north and northeast of Philadelphia this afternoon as the trough pivots on through.  The Poconos could see those showers mix with or simply fall in the form of snow as freezing levels in the atmosphere are around 1500 feet as of this morning and one can't rule out, thanks to the cold atmosphere, the possibility of some graupel (sleety hail) this afternoon across parts of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.   Rainfall amounts will be honest but thanks to the presence of some additional moisture in the atmosphere the threat for grass and brush fires will be a touch lower in the area today.

Today ends up being the coolest and cloudiest of the stretch, with the trough exiting stage right tomorrow and temperatures bouncing back towards 60 for a high tomorrow...and into the 60's for Friday.
