Weather Rewind: June 3rd-9th, 2012

Last week's temperatures ended up three degrees below average for early June -- and would have been cooler if not for the 89 degree day that we had yesterday at the Airport.  Included in the cool stretch were back-to-back days with highs in the 60's, running over ten degrees below average before we began a gradual warming trend over the duration of the week.  Temperatures were back into the 80's by Thursday at Philly and solidly in the 80's for Friday.

The weather story of the week was the persistence of an upper level trough over the East Coast, bringing thunderstorm rounds to the region on Sunday and Thursday, and scatterings of showers on Monday and Tuesday to the Delaware Valley.  Monday was particularly cool and damp, with showers falling into Monday night as temperatures outside of the city were solidly down in the 50's north and northwest of the city.   While the city itself only picked up 0.45" of rain last week, other locations picked up quite a bit more. Reading picked up 0.80" and Allentown picked up 1.03" of rain, which added to Friday's bounty of rain have some locations running solidly over 200% of average in the rainfall department so far this month...the exception to that being Delaware and South Jersey...places that have been running pretty dry of late.
