July 24th, 2012 Forecast

After a downright cool Friday, temperatures moderated to near normal levels for the latter half of the weekend, with a brilliantly sunny day on Sunday.  The start of the work week has sun in it and temperatures will be on the rise, with highs just into or flirting with the 90-degree mark all week, with a chance for storms once again.  Some of these storms are about to or are currently moving through the region now, and these storms could pack a punch.  The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland under a slight risk for severe weather, with the biggest threat being hail.  It's notable that there is a 5-percent risk area in west-central and western Pennsylvania for tornadoes, not something you normally see.  There is also a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Lehigh Valley and north Jersey, northward into New York.

For us here in the Delaware Valley tonight, storms should move through late evening into the overnight.  Some storms may be severe, with higher winds and hail, but as we had towards daybreak Tuesday, the storms will be on their way out.  Lows tonight will stick in the mid 70's here in the metro, down to the upper 60's north and west - where they've been seeing more clouds and precipitation today - to the upper 70's south and east.  Tomorrow, we're left with party sunny skies and hot temperatures.  We did make it into the 90's on Monday and we're forecasted to do the same Tuesday, 2/3rds of the way to another heat wave.  Highs in the lower 90's in the metro, with warm winds out of the west.

Wednesday, we flirt with the 90-degree mark yet again under mostly sunny skies.  Thursday, the next chance of showers and thunderstorms starts to stick around, with temperatures back into the 90's.  The better chance for showers happens Friday, with variable cloudiness and still temperatures just at 90-degrees.  Temperatures drop slightly, but still in the upper 80's for the start of your weekend, and still a chance of showers or storms.  Lows hover around the 70-degree mark, so not oppressively hot but warmer than where we normally are this time of year.  Sunday, just like this past Sunday, warm with sun and clouds and an all around nice day.  For the start of the next workweek, partly cloudy with our next chance of rain coming in overnight Monday and into Tuesday.
