Let's Get Tropical!
Temperatures this morning generally range from the 60's north to the 70's in the city and points south. Clouds and showers hold serve in many locations, with the most numerous showers generally along the PA Turnpike and just south of I-195 in New Jersey, running west back to Harrisburg along a humidity boundary that is lifting northward through the Mid Atlantic today.
Today has a better-than-average shot of avoiding 90 degrees and putting another break into the stretch of heat that we're in. Despite the presence of clouds and likely highs in the upper 80's this afternoon, the increase in humidity to near tropical-like levels (dew points likely to get into the 70's at times this afternoon) will allow the region to feel a bit more humid than past days. While we may not technically have a "hot" day out there (and I wouldn't classify the last three days as hot but as "summery"), it will feel more humid and bring heat index values pretty close to highs for yesterday (lower 90's in the city).
Showers will be around through much of the morning before they depart...which will allow for temperatures to nudge higher. A few thunderstorms will pop in the humidity this afternoon despite little more than filtered sunshine around today -- there's enough moisture and instability around to trigger a few storms in the impending soupy airmass. It won't rain all day and any storms that pop this afternoon will be scattered around. More storms are likely tomorrow as well...those providing the potential for heavy downpours in spots.
