Weather Rewind, July 22-28, 2012
Temperatures last week averaged out to four degrees above average thanks to five 90 degree days over the course of the week, bringing our season total to 30 for 2012. Sunday and Wednesday were the coolest days, both pretty warm ones in the scheme of things, but the region boasted two hot days on Monday and Tuesday followed by another mini wave of 90's for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as temperatures topped out at 94, 90, and 93 to close out the week. Month-to-date, the average temperature is 82.1 in Philadelphia...if the month closed out today it would be the second hottest (tied with 1994) on record. We will probably end up in third once the month is out.
Rainfall last week was sporadic around the region despite thunderstorms popping up in various locations on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. For the city, a total of one half inch fell although Atlantic City picked up close to two inches of rainfall. Compared to average (Saturday 7/21-Friday 7/27), most of the region ended up below where it should be...but factoring in yesterday's rainfall totals locally a number of locations would average out much closer to normal thanks to the scattering of rainfall. Philadelphia is 2.45" below where it should be for July in rainfall and over 8 1/2" for the year...with Wilmington also over eight inches below year-to-date (closer to normal in July thanks to an inch of rain on Thursday). However, Atlantic City is just 1.27" below year-to-date...showing how close "normal" rainfall has been to the city proper as AC has been the beneficiary of a number of rounds of storms since June 1st, helping keep their rainfall totals much closer to normal.
