Weather Rewind: July 8-14, 2012

Temperatures last week averaged out to 2.9 degrees above normal, definitely an improvement over the first week of July were temperatures were closer to eight degrees above normal around the region.  We also saw this month's first days where high temperatures weren't at or above 90 degrees -- Tuesday's 89 and Saturday's 81.  Both days happened to be the days where at least some rainfall fell around the region....on Tuesday it was an early morning round of showers working through, with Saturday featuring a more solid round of rain during the morning hours.   Saturday was the only below average day for the week...and the month so far.

Nationally, temperatures have been quite warm outside of along the Gulf Coast (below average and extremely rainy in Southeast Texas) and along the West Coast.  The center of the country featured oppressive heat in the first week of July, a bit less extreme heat last week...but the nation's middle is also quite, quite dry.  Those dry conditions have helped to boost temperatures in the Midwest...and our recent dry spell (save for Saturday's rains) were a contributing factor into extending our 90 degree stretch to 15 of 16 days.
