Scattered Soaking Today

A few early morning showers and downpours are scattered around the region as of 4 AM -- the heaviest downpours are over the Lehigh Valley and Berks County, moving slowly east and northeast.  With a moist atmosphere and a trough moving through Pennsylvania today, the prospect of showers and storms at any one time is pretty good.  While these storms probably end up a bit more numerous this afternoon and evening, this morning's shower and storm activity indicates that there's enough pop in the atmosphere for a soaking downpour at any time in any place.

Temperatures start in the upper 60's and lower 70's this morning -- en route for the mid 80's this afternoon.  Showers and thunderstorms will become gradually more numerous later on today.  Some of the storms will produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds -- perhaps a few severe warnings in spots.  Any downpour could produce a quick inch, maybe two, of rainfall as these storms slowly move through.   Not everyone will get the inch or two of rain -- some spots will see much less today.  However, the heaviest downpours could lead to localized flooding or ponding of water on roads.
