Still On Track For Warmest Year
Despite September's relatively "average" temperatures in the books, 2012 is still well on pace for the warmest year on record for Philadelphia. Our average temperature for 2012 is 62.11 degrees, which is 0.83 degrees above the pace setter through September.
Unless temperatures average at least a degree and a half below average between now and the end of the year, we will end up with the warmest year on record. Our record warm year is 58.09 degrees from 1998. Through September, we're 1.15 degrees warmer than the '98 trend setter. Barring any unforeseen arctic-like outbreaks, Philadelphia remains on track for the warmest year since climate records began in the 1800's.
