The Calm Before the Storm

Today will be a gray day, but we're going to have to get used to that with the approach of Sandy.  This will certainly be the better half of the weekend because I'm expecting a mainly dry day.  I can't rule out a spotty shower this afternoon, especially for areas north and west of the city, but odds are against it.  The cause for any showers today would be a cold front approaching from the west, but it appears to be pretty slow moving so I feel that most shower activity will hold off until tonight and Sunday.

Temperatures today will still be above normal for this time of year.  We should be in the mid 60s by noon with a high temperature near 70 this afternoon.  Winds out of the east-northeast will keep the clouds locked in, however.  If you have outdoor plans, today is certainly the day to go ahead and have them because I imagine most outdoor activities will be cancelled over the next several days as Sandy moves into the area.
