Weather Rewind: October 7th-13th, 2012

Temperatures last week averaged 6.4 degrees below average for October and with the exception of Wednesday's high near 70 degrees, each day was below average on temperatures last week.  The theme for the week was cool -- damp to start with showers on Sunday, drizzle on Monday and Tuesday, crisp to finish on Thursday through Saturday.  Highs did not crack 60 on four of the seven days and we had our first sub 40 degree low of the cold season on Saturday morning.   Record lows were set in Scranton, Williamsport, and Allentown and a hard frost or freeze was common down into the Philadelphia suburbs on both sides of the river.

Rainfall last week was modest -- 0.22" in Philadelphia for the week, the vast majority of it on Sunday morning into midday with a shield of rain that moved through.

October is shaping up to be a rather cool month so far nationally -- locally, we're treading water right around average through yesterday in Philadelphia but temperatures are much below average over large sections of the Plains and Midwest, with a bevy of record lows last weekend across the Plains as the core of cold drifted south through the nation's midsection.
