Nearly 75 individuals entered our snowfall projection contest for this winter...thank you for submitting your snowfall totals. We had a nearly seventy inch spread in snowfall from the lowest snowfall projection and the highest for the upcoming winter, which was more than last winter's 57" spread between low and high.
The average of all submitted snowfall guesses was 30.5", which is higher than our projected total of 20-25" for the winter and above Philadelphia's 1981-2010 average of 21.8".
The lowest guess was three inches and the highest was 72.1". Nobody predicted zero and nobody tried to outdo the snowy winter of 2009-2010 (78.7") in terms of snowfall.
Breaking it down by ten inch range (0-10, 10.1-20, etc.), 48 of 74 submissions were between 20.1 and 40 inches (22 in the 20's, 26 in the 30's), with 11 in the teens and nine in the 40's. One snowfall amount was predicted by three different people and four other amounts had two guesses attributed to them.
Good luck with your predictions...after the winter is over we'll revisit these and see how everyone did!
