December 28th, 2012 Forecast

With two storms behind us, we'll see one more day of calm weather before storm number three heads our way, bringing us our best chance for accumulating snow, even here in the city.  Temperatures will be headed down to near normal, meaning we can expect frigid conditions as we head into the new year.

After the windy conditions we've seen throughout the day, we'll see the wind calm down slightly but still breezy, all under partly cloudy skies.  Lows around the metro dipping into the upper 20's, as well as towards the south and east and into the mid-20's to the north and west.  Winds will continue to come from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.  For Friday, skies will feature sun and clouds, with clouds on the increase later in the afternoon.  Late Friday into Saturday, areas to the south could see some flurries.  Highs tomorrow around 40 in the city and to the south and east and in the mid- to upper 30's to the north and west.  Winds will continue to be out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday seems to be the real troublemaker of a day.  Skies will be overcast with snow throughout the day.  Right now, the general forecast is for two to four inches of snow, with less to the south and east, where there could be a period of mixing in the late morning or early afternoon.  By early morning on Saturday, snow showers will start to filter in in some of the more western suburbs.  By sunrise, snow showers will have moved into the metro area and closing in on some coastal sections on New Jersey.  Some areas in Delaware could be seeing a light mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain changing over by this time while some heavier snow starts falling in the western suburbs.  By early afternoon, the change over to rain has occurred in parts of central and southern Delaware and extreme southern New Jersey.  Heavier snow starts to move in on southeastern Pennsylvania and central New Jersey.  By late evening, the system is starting to move out and leaving us with just some snow flurries and breezy conditions.

Of course, timing can change, so stay tuned tomorrow for my forecast.  For Sunday, highs are in the upper 30's with breezy conditions and partly cloudy skies.  For New Years Eve and Day, both days feature high's in the lower 40's under partly sunny skies.  Tuesday could feature breezy conditions, so be sure to bundle up for the Mummers Parade.  Wednesday, temperatures drop into the mid-30's, making it frigid under partly to mostly sunny skies.  Thursday will be partly cloudy with highs back near 40-degrees.
