Weather Rewind -- November 25-December 1, 2012

Temperatures last week averaged 3.4 degrees below normal for this time of the year, wrapping up the chilled regime that dominated November in the Delaware Valley.  Monday and Thursday mornings featured Philadelphia's first foray into the 20's this cold season -- 28 on Monday being the coldest since March 6th. Included in that cooler than average week was a snow event on Tuesday in the northern and western suburbs that dropped over four inches of snow in parts of Chester County.  The city and points southeast were rain (or a mix with some snowflakes), with Philadelphia picking up a half inch of rain in that event.  Once removed from that suburban snow, the remainder of the week featured gradual moderation in temperatures as the city got back above 50 degrees on Friday and Saturday.  Saturday, in fact, was above average on temperatures.

The month of November was the chilliest in Philadelphia since 1996 and for the eastern third of the country, the chill was on.  Cooler than average temperatures nearly ruled the roost for all east of the Mississippi River.  Temperatures west of the river were above average as a ridge of high pressure was in control of the weather over the Rockies and Plains.
