Crisp Day Forthcoming

We're off to a cold start around the region but thanks to some high clouds around overnight we didn't bottom out quite as much as some of the models were hinting at.  As of 4 AM, mainly 20's around the region...with 28 in Philadelphia for a temperature.  Today will be a crisp but bright day as sunshine takes over for much of the day as those high clouds thin out later on this morning.  A weak trough will push east through the eastern Great Lakes and across Upstate New York and Pennsylvania towards dinner, perhaps increasing some high clouds on the western horizon towards sunset as the NAM is depicting above.  Other than that though, it looks to be a fairly tranquil and tolerable January day.

Expect highs this afternoon in the middle 30's in many locations, with upper 30's south.  While a few degrees below normal, it won't be anything too terribly cold for January.  That said, it will be crisp and typical winter at its finest.

Enjoy the cold...next week at this time could feature at least 50 degree weather around here.
