Weather Rewind: April 21-27, 2013

Temperatures averaged 4.1 degrees below average last week -- thanks in large part to Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday's chilly reality.  While Wednesday through Saturday averaged out to normal overall, the first three days of the week averaged ten degrees below average.  Tuesday might have felt like the worst day of the three -- the combination of cold east winds and damp conditions made life pretty miserable by late April standards.

The week, by and large, was pretty dry.  A few showers passed through on Wednesday with an approaching cold front, followed by a few additional showers on Thursday in the pre-dawn hours.  The balance of the week was mainly dry outside of some patchy drizzle on Tuesday around the region.

Nationally, was colder for most of the country despite the last couple of nice days.  A cold surge dominated the early portions of the week, with some locations getting temperatures that were 20 or 30 degrees below average on Wednesday and Thursday morning in the Midwest.  Much of the country has rebounded over the last couple of days, warming as the cold trough that dug down from Canada retreated northward.
