Quite Cool with lots of Sun

For the middle of May, we are off to quite a cool start this morning.  Temperatures are in the middle to upper 30's in interior southern NJ, the Poconos and other areas in Northeast PA and Northern NJ.  Elsewhere, readings are in the lower 40's.  A pretty strong upper-level trough for this time of year has moved over the region.  The axis of that trough will move through during the day, so cool air will continue to filter into the area and temperatures will likely struggle to reach 60 in most locations by day's end.  The city probably gets close, upper 50's in the early afternoon, but it's not going to be the warmest of May days.

No weather to speak of today as High pressure to our south and east will provide lots of sunshine today with a few clouds from time to time.  Winds will be lighter than yesterday in a slightly north of west direction.

With calm winds and the heart of the cool air mass over us, temperatures will really plummet tonight.  There are already frost and freeze advisories for the counties well north and west of the city.  Many areas, especially away from the city and points north will drop into the 30's.  Some areas could even drop as low as the freezing mark.  Make sure to protect any plants or crops if you're in the far, outlying burbs.
