A warm front is approaching the region this morning, leading to an area of heavy rain and thunderstorms that are pushing north and northeast through the western suburbs as of 6 AM. These showers and storms are producing heavy rains on the order of a half inch to an inch in a short period of time, leading to the issuance of flood advisories in the suburban counties until 9:45 this morning.
Rain and thunder will gradually push into the city by 7 or 7:30 as this initial wave of moisture continues to propagate east and northeast. Some thunder and lightning should be expected, along with a slow grind into the office on area roads as rain will likely snarl and slow your morning commute.
Rain will be with us in scattered fashion for much of the day as there is a lot of moisture in the atmosphere ahead of a disturbance that's back in the Midwest. With tropical influence pulling in, the potential for additional heavy rain is in the cards today and a Flood Watch is out for the entire Delaware Valley for today and tonight.
