Strong Storms to End Heat Later

Today will be the last day of our extended heat wave.  Look for hazy sun to start, but then clouds will begin to build in this afternoon.  Before they do, temperatures will already be around 90 by noon, topping out in the low and mid 90s for highs later on.

A weak cold front is currently moving our way from the northwest.  This cold front will be our heat breaker.  Showers and thunderstorms will develop along the front, but I don't expect any rain until late this afternoon.  The northwest suburbs should expect storms to arrive between 4 and 6 PM.  In the city, storms should hold off until between 5 and 7 PM.  South and east of the city won't see any storms until between 6 and 8 PM.

Some of the thunderstorms could reach severe limits.  The greatest threats from any storm will be small hail and damaging wind gusts.  A brief period of heavy rain is also a possibility.  Be sure to keep an eye to the sky if you will be spending any time outdoors this evening.
