Weather Rewind: June 30-July 6, 2013

Last week's weather was punctuated by heavy rain and thunder at the beginning of the week and the warmest day of the year so far at the week's end.  Temperatures averaged 3.7 degrees above average over the whole of the week, with every day featuring above average temperatures overall.

While Philadelphia "only" picked up 0.77" of rain last week, some spots picked up over three inches of rain in Montgomery County and in Central and North Jersey between Sunday and Monday's rounds of heavy rain and thunder that moved on through. Monday morning's storms in particular were responsible for a tornado touchdown in North Jersey.

The heavy rain train that started the week and also finished up June was not just for us in Philadelphia and the Mid Atlantic. Parts of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida also picked up more than a foot of rain over the course of the month of June, with rainfall records for the month occurring in several other locations throughout the Southeast.  If you weren't aware, rainfall records for the month of June were set at Wilmington and Philadelphia.
