Humid with Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms

Its a warm and humid morning across the area on this first day of September.  Temperatures as of 7am are in the low to middle 70's.  A few showers and thunderstorms have developed with a weak shortwave aloft moving through the region.  These are mainly confined to areas in Eastern PA between the Poconos and the city, moving slowly east.  There are also a few spots with some fog and low stratus with the weak southerly flow at the surface.

Somewhat of a tricky forecast today as a few other shortwaves aloft begin to approach the region from the north and west.  These will help to trigger showers and thunderstorms as we go into the afternoon and evening hours and we'll have to wait and see how widespread in coverage they will be.  The best chances though will primarily be in the city and points north and west.  Areas south and east of the city will see lesser chances and probably stay completely dry.  This will also be the case for cloud cover as southern areas will see a lot more sunshine.  All areas will see some sun but clouds will dominate more as you travel north of the city.

Weak the flow pretty weak, any showers or thunderstorms that do occur will have the potential to put down heavy rainfall and we are already seeing that this morning with the thunderstorms slowly moving east.  A few reports have shown up to an inch of rainfall as they moved through.

It will be warm and humid, feeling more like the first day of August than September.  Highs will top out in the mid 80's for most locations, but areas further south could get close to 90 if there is more sunshine and less cloud cover.
