Rain, Thunderstorms and Breezy

The warm weather we've had the past few days as well as the dryness over the region lately will be coming to an end.  A strong cold, currently situated over western PA will be moving through the region today. As of 7am, most of the heavier rain and thunderstorms are well to the west, with only some scattered showers and sprinkles around.  Clouds have already overspread  the area and it will be mainly overcast before the rain arrives.  Its also breezy with southerly winds in the 10-15 mph range and this will continue with higher gusts at times.

We will see some much needed rain and amounts will be in the 1-2" range.  This will be more common from the city and points north and west.  Amount will drop off a bit into NJ and coastal areas.  The majority of rainfall we see will be in the afternoon and evening hours.  The rain will be heavy at times.  The dynamics are there to see some thunderstorms embedded as well.  And with strong winds aloft, any storms that do occur could put down some strong wind gusts.

Temperatures will not warm much through the day and highs will generally be reached before the rain arrives.  Highs will top out in the lower to middle 70's.
