The cold front responsible for today's first flakes of the year in many spots will push away, with clouds thinning and breaking up later on today (probably around midday) as colder northwest winds blow throughout the region. This afternoon shapes up as a brighter but brisk afternoon as northwest winds gust to 25 miles per hour and sunshine slowly returns from northwest to southeast.
Temperatures, which started around 50 degrees early this morning, will not recover to those early morning levels with the enforcement of chill. We'll probably see temperatures hover near 40 through the midday and early afternoon hours, probably climb into the low 40's for the city and south, before dropping off towards dinner. With those brisk winds, wind chills will be several degrees lower.
